Ground staff jobs are generally challenging, but they are also well paying. To be a ground staff worker, you need to be able to think on your feet and to come up with creative solutions to unexpected problems.The Eligibility Criteria for the Airport Ground Staff/Crew is the age should be between 18yrs to 27yrs with a minimum qualification of XIIth with Graduation (Result Awaited) can also apply.

There are many duties and responsibilities to come with ground staff jobs, but the main one is to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers who travel through the airport. Different airports and airlines have different job descriptions for their ground staff, but in most cases, the ground staff is charged with the following duties.

Majorly, in Airport Ground Staff, there are 3 Departments:
  • Customer Service Associate
  • Ramp Personnel
  • Security Personnel
Customer Service Associate:
Within the airport terminal, the ground staff is responsible for:
  • Manning the check-in counters that serve departing passengers. Here, the duties include checking the passengers in for their flights, redirecting or rebooking customers whose flights have either been delayed or canceled, and giving updates to passengers who are waiting in the lobbies.
  • Manning the arrival and departure gates. This involves attending to customers before they board, after they land, or when they are switching between flights.
  • Performing cabin services to ensure that passengers are comfortable during their flights. Cabin services include cleaning and restocking the planes before the passengers can board them.
  • Issuing tickets to passengers.
  • Assisting passengers by answering questions, providing directions, or attending to their other needs. This includes helping passengers with inquiries about delayed or lost baggage.
  • Taking reservations from passengers who call in.
  • Assisting passengers with luggage check-ins at the ticket counter.
  • Making sure that all baggage is delivered.
  • Confirming the identities of passengers, and providing them with boarding passes.
  • In some cases, ground staff may be responsible for screening passengers and their luggage for security purposes.
  • Giving special assistance to disabled passengers. Outside the terminal, the ground staff is responsible for:
  • Loading and unloading bags and other luggage to and from the plane.
  • Helping passengers and the flight crew to get on and off the plane by providing the stairs.
  • Indicating to the pilots which taxi spots they should use after the plane has landed.
Most airlines expect their ground staff recruits to meet the following minimum requirements:
  • Recruits must have a good command of the English language.
  • They should have excellent communication skills.
Following under the category of a Ground Crew are also RAMP duties and Security functions.
Ramp Personnel:

A commercial airplane wouldn’t get off the ground, without the help of an airport ramp agent. De-icing planes in cold weather, transporting baggage, and cleaning the aircraft are just a few of the important duties of this position. Working under pressure and in a tight time frame, airport ramp agents must work diligently to make sure that the airplane is ready to go for its next flight. Safety is paramount and airport ramp agents work in the thick of 175,000 pound airplanes moving around the tarmac.

Job Description

An airport ramp agent plays an important role in ensuring that flights run on time. Loading and unloading baggage is just one of the main duties of this position. In a short period of time, airport ramp agents must keep records of shipped goods, move cargo to and from the aircraft, and document damage and mishandled items. Before the airplane is able to Take Off Aviation and Management Academy for its next flight, an airport ramp agent must clean the interior of the airplane, including the galleys, seats, windows and waste disposal receptacles. Maintaining the restrooms and restocking the aircraft is also a duty of this position. An airport ramp agent drives heavy equipment like air stair units, baggage carts, de-icers, belt loaders and push back tugs. Guiding airplanes to the gate and backing them up for take-off are other critical duties of this position.

Security Personnel:

At an airport, the security officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of passengers at the airport.The tasks are divided between the screening of passengers and cabin luggage as well as personal effects through scanners. He also performs the verification of crew personnel, and airport staff on the airside area. His position is at the controls before entering the airside area or in the airlock spaces at flight connections. The work requires wearing a uniform and team functioning, as well as working unusual hours including weekends and holidays.
